The magic of modern kitchen appliances truly shines when you discover recipes as delightful and straightforward as these **Instant Pot donuts**. It’s astonishing how quickly you can create baked goods without even touching your oven. My kitchen, much like many others, has become a hub for multi-function devices, allowing for incredible culinary versatility and efficiency. Gone are the days of waiting for an oven to preheat when you can achieve delicious results with the press of a button.

If you’re new to the wonderful world of pressure cooking, welcome! These devices open up a realm of possibilities, from savory one-pot meals to sweet treats like our **Ninja Foodi donuts**. To help you get started on your pressure cooking journey, here are a few fundamental tips that will enhance your experience:

  • Make sure to Bookmark our Instant Pot recipes page. We consistently add new and exciting recipes each week, keeping your culinary adventures fresh!
  • For a quick reference, PRINT this Instant Pot cooking times cheat sheet. It’s an invaluable tool for understanding how long various ingredients, from meats and vegetables to beans, take to cook in your pressure cooker. This will build your confidence in creating a wide array of dishes.
  • I highly recommend investing in this non-stick inner pot. It makes clean-up significantly easier and helps prevent food from sticking, which is especially beneficial when dealing with delicate recipes or preparing sauces.
  • Understanding how to deglaze your pressure cooker after sautéing is a crucial skill. While a non-stick pot reduces this issue, knowing the technique ensures that no flavorful bits are left behind and prevents the dreaded “burn” message.

For context, the model I frequently use for developing and testing recipes is a 6-quart Instant Pot, which offers ample capacity for most family meals and dessert preparations.

A pristine white Instant Pot, adorned with a subtle Star Wars emblem, rests on a contemporary kitchen counter. Its digital display shows "On," signaling readiness for a culinary adventure. Adjacent to it, a neatly folded patterned cloth and a cluster of fresh green onions add a touch of color, all set against a backdrop of stylish blue kitchen cabinets and a sleek stovetop.

When it comes to choosing the **best pressure cooker**, many home cooks, including myself, have strong preferences. I’ve been a loyal Instant Pot user since its early days, and now proudly own three different sizes to accommodate various cooking needs. However, the culinary landscape has expanded beautifully with innovative devices.

  • The Ninja Foodi has made a significant impact, ingeniously combining the functions of an air fryer and a pressure cooker. Its dual functionality offers incredible convenience, allowing you to pressure cook tender meals and then crisp them up with the air fryer lid – perfect for dishes like our **Ninja Foodi donuts**!
  • To help you explore the capabilities of these versatile appliances, you can find a free Ninja Foodi cookbook packed with easy pressure cooker and air fryer recipes. Additionally, I offer a free Instant Pot cookbook featuring several of my favorite recipes, including more pressure cooker dessert ideas.

Creating Delectable Pressure Cooker Donuts the Easy Way

Freshly made cake mix donut holes, some dusted with powdered sugar, ready for decorating or enjoying as a quick dessert.

One of the beauties of these **pressure cooker donuts** is that perfection is entirely optional! When they emerge from the mold, they might not look like they belong in a bakery display, but that’s part of their charm. Simply pop them out, flip them over, and they instantly look more uniform. The real fun begins when you smother them with luscious melted chocolate and let the kids join in the decoration with sprinkles. Everyone will be too busy enjoying the deliciousness to notice any minor imperfections!

Truly, enjoying homemade treats is about the experience and the taste, not just flawless aesthetics. These **Instant Pot donuts** embody that philosophy perfectly.

To embark on creating this delightful **Instant Pot** or **Ninja Foodi breakfast** (or dessert!), here’s everything you’ll need. You’ll be amazed how quickly these come together!

Ingredients & Equipment for Your Pressure Cooker Donut Adventure:

  1. Box of Cake Mix: This is our magical 3-ingredient base. We found that triple chocolate fudge cake mix makes for incredible chocolate donut holes, reminiscent of classic bakery treats. Feel free to experiment with any flavor you love!
  2. Buttermilk: Essential for a tender crumb. If you don’t have buttermilk on hand, a simple buttermilk substitute can be easily made at home.
  3. Eggs: To bind our simple batter.
  4. Non-stick Spray: Crucial for ensuring your donut holes release cleanly from the mold.
  5. Silicone Egg Bite Mold: This ingenious accessory creates the perfect donut hole shape within your pressure cooker.
  6. White Chocolate Chips: (Optional, for frosting) For a sweet, decadent topping.
  7. Coconut Oil: (Optional, for frosting) A small amount makes melting chocolate incredibly smooth and easy.
  8. Sprinkles: (Optional, for decorating) Add a pop of color and fun!

Wondering if you can double this recipe? Absolutely! The recipe below yields approximately 10 donut holes, which typically fills one 7-hole egg mold. To make a larger batch, simply double the ingredients and cook in two separate batches using the same mold, or use two molds if you have them.

Baking Donuts with Cake Mix in the Oven: An Alternative Method

While our focus here is on **pressure cooker donuts**, it’s worth noting that you can achieve similarly delicious results using your oven. If you prefer the traditional baking method or don’t have a pressure cooker, these **cake mix donuts** are still incredibly simple to make.

  • To begin, follow our detailed instructions in the cake mix donuts post for preparing the batter. It’s essentially mixing your cake mix, buttermilk, and egg in a bowl until smooth.
  • You will need a donut pan, which creates the classic donut shape.
  • For easy filling, transfer your batter into a pint-size freezer bag, snip off one corner, and pipe it neatly into the donut pan cavities. A pastry bag works just as well, but a freezer bag is a great budget-friendly alternative.
  • Bake your semi-homemade donuts in the oven according to package directions or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Once baked, allow them to cool slightly in the pan before transferring them to paper towels to cool completely.
  • Finally, frost and decorate them just as we do with our **pressure cooker donuts** for a beautiful and tasty finish!
  • Enjoy these versatile treats for any occasion!

If you’re in the mood for something truly classic, we also have a fantastic fried donut recipe that offers a different texture and flavor profile.

How to Melt White Chocolate Chips for a Smooth Glaze

Creating a perfectly smooth, pourable white chocolate glaze for your **pressure cooker donuts** is simpler than you might think, especially with this clever trick:

  • Start by placing 1 cup of white chocolate chips into a small, microwave-safe bowl. I often use disposable paper bowls for easy cleanup, as melted chocolate can be quite stubborn to wash off.
  • Add ½ teaspoon of coconut oil to the bowl. This is the secret ingredient that helps the chocolate melt smoothly and gives it a beautiful, glossy finish.
  • Microwave the bowl for 30 seconds.
  • Remove the bowl and stir the chocolate well. It won’t be fully melted yet, but stirring distributes the heat.
  • Return the bowl to the microwave for another 30 seconds.
  • Immediately after heating, stir quickly and vigorously. The residual heat, combined with the coconut oil, should be enough to melt the chips completely, transforming them into a wonderfully smooth, lump-free coating.
  • To coat your donut holes, hold each one by its side and spoon the melted white chocolate over the top half.
  • Place the coated donut on a non-stick surface, such as a cutting board lined with parchment paper, to allow the chocolate to set.

Achieving Perfection with Your Instant Pot and Ninja Foodi Donuts

Making **Instant Pot donuts** (or **Ninja Foodi donuts**) is incredibly straightforward, but a few key tips will ensure your donut holes turn out perfectly every time:

  1. Grease Your Mold Thoroughly: Always spray the inside holes of your silicone egg mold generously with non-stick spray. This step is crucial to prevent the donut holes from sticking and makes for easy release.
  2. Immediate Foil Removal: As soon as you remove the egg mold from the pressure cooker, take off the foil covering immediately. This prevents condensation from dripping back onto the donuts, which can make them soggy.
  3. Allow for Initial Cooling: Wait a few minutes after removing the mold before attempting to pop out each donut hole. Allowing them to settle and cool slightly makes them easier to handle and prevents burning your fingers.
  4. Cool Before Frosting: Ensure your donut holes are completely cool before applying any melted chocolate coating. If they are still warm, the chocolate won’t cool and harden as quickly, leading to a messier finish.
  5. Sprinkle Promptly: If you’re adding sprinkles or other toppings, do so immediately after applying the chocolate coating. The chocolate hardens quickly, and waiting too long will prevent your toppings from adhering.

These techniques apply universally, whether you’re making **Ninja Foodi donuts**, **Instant Pot donuts**, or using any other electric pressure cooker brand like a Crockpot Express. For Ninja Foodi users, simply ensure you’re using the pressure cooking function with the appropriate pressure lid (the one that is not attached for air frying) and follow the directions below.

Beyond pressure cooking, the Ninja Foodi’s versatility opens doors to other fantastic donut recipes, such as our air fryer donut recipe. And for a truly quick fix, our biscuit donuts are also incredibly fabulous and take minutes to prepare!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 c cake mix (roughly half a box, we used triple chocolate fudge)
  • 1/2 c buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c white chocolate chips (for frosting)
  • 1/2 tsp coconut oil (for melting chocolate)
  • Optional: Sprinkles for decoration
  • Equipment: Silicone egg bite mold, non-stick spray, trivet

Instructions

  1. Mix together your cake mix, buttermilk, and egg well in a bowl until smooth.
  2. Spray the inside holes of your silicone egg mold generously with non-stick spray.
  3. Place a trivet inside your pressure cooker pot and add 1.5 cups of water.
  4. Fill each egg mold hole about 3/4 of the way full with batter. Cover the mold tightly with aluminum foil, then use a foil sling to carefully lower the egg mold onto your trivet in the pot.
  5. Close the lid of your pressure cooker, ensure the steam release valve is sealed, and set it to pressure cook on high for 12 minutes.
  6. Once cooking is complete, allow the pressure to naturally release for 2 minutes, then manually release any remaining steam.
  7. Carefully remove the mold from the pot. Immediately take off the foil covering and let the donuts cool for a few minutes.
  8. Gently pop the donut holes out of the mold and place them on a paper towel. At this point, you can enjoy them plain or proceed with frosting.
  9. If adding frosting, combine white chocolate chips and coconut oil in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds.
  10. Stir the mixture, then microwave for an additional 30 seconds. Continue stirring until the chocolate is completely smooth and lump-free.
  11. Spoon the melted white chocolate over the tops of the cooled donut holes. Place them on a non-stick surface (like parchment paper) and immediately sprinkle with your desired toppings. Allow the chocolate to cool and harden completely before serving. Enjoy!
