October means all things air fryer pumpkin right??!! 😉 Don’t throw those seeds away this year, try this! It is basically free since you may have been throwing them away all these years and make a crunchy snack.

Ninja Foodi Pumpkin Seeds

There are lots of different brands out there and they all basically work the same by cooking food with hot air. If you use the Ninja Foodi it is the lid that is attached that you will use for this recipe with the round basket inside.

Three pumpkins are placed on a light-colored surface. Two people are blurred in the background, but the focus remains on the pumpkins. The medium-sized pumpkins, with their bright orange hue and short green-brown stems, look perfect for roasting air fryer pumpkin seeds.

Things you need

You want to start with a large fresh pumpkin with pumpkin seeds removed, each one will yield about 1 cup of seeds. Larger gourds don’t necessarily yield more, I prefer medium sizes.

You will need quite a few Paper towels to dry seeds, you want them to be as dry as possible before crisping or the texture won’t be ideal.

Melted Butter or olive oil can be used to coat them to add flavor and help with the crisping process under hot air.

Salt – these are the Lawrys seasoned salt ingredients

If you have only roasted pumpkin seeds at 350 degrees, this is better! Store bought seeds are VERY HIGH in sodium and not as crispy as you’ll get when air frying pumpkin seeds yourself. Homemade is always best, you have to admit that. Invest just a little time and you too will agree with me.

How Long to Cook Pumpkin Seeds in Air Fryer

You are going to need about 10 minutes total to get them to dry with a crispy golden brown color on the outside. This will vary slightly depending on how much they overlap in the basket but 8-12 minutes would be typical to perfection.

Should you season pumpkin seeds before or after cooking them?

You really do want to add some salt (I prefer Lawry’s seasoned salt) at the beginning when you coat the outside with melted butter or olive oil so it sticks. Then when they are roasted the seasoning will stick on there so in each bite it will be super flavorful.

Tips

The first thing you need to do is carve a pumpkin and prepare the seeds. Set the rest aside and decide how you want to cook that. We share how to clean pumpkin seeds well here.

Once your seeds are cleaned and very dry it is best to preheat your air fryer at 360 degrees for about 4 minutes. That will ensure your air fryer basket will be nice and hot when you add them. After 5 minutes shaking the basket is a must. Toss the seeds quickly with a fast shake. Total time will vary from 10 to 15 minutes depending on the amount you have added

Can you double or triple this recipe? Yes!! Just make sure you only add about 1 cup at a time so they are in a single layer and not overlapping.
