A close-up photo of a hand pulling out the basket of an open air fryer on a light-colored surface. The interior of the air fryer basket is empty and features a mesh design, perfect for cooking your favorite dishes like bang bang shrimp. The edge of the air fryer has a latch mechanism for securing the basket.

Ingredient Notes

You can find a bag of ravioli already made near the precooked pasta in the refrigerated section of the grocery store, or in the freezer section. Each person is going to want 4-6 breaded ravioli so decide how many packages you will want to pick up for your family.

Do you need to defrost frozen ravioli?

Yes. If you can only find them in the freezer section in a bag you could use those as well but it will take a bit more time. First you will want to set them in the fridge so they can defrost, or boil until tender. Once they are thawed you can start with the instructions below.

Do ravioli float when done?

Yes. That is a good indicator that yours are cooked through and ready to be taken out. Best to cut one in half though and taste it to ensure filling is cooked to your liking. Allowing them to cool a bit to make these is helpful so you can handle them. The trick is to make sure they don’t stick together.

You will want whisked egg to coat the outside to dip the ravioli in for the breading to stick. If you needed an egg free option you could dip into olive oil or brush with mayonnaise instead. The bread crumbs just won’t stick quite as well, but it’s an alternative.

Olive oil spray is necessary if you want them REALLY crispy on the outside, generally isn’t necessary but will work as an effective non stick cooking spray for air fryer basket too. Marinara sauce is what we like to dip them in when done.

Breading (Options)

I would not use flour, breadcrumbs of some kind are your best bet. Italian seasoned is great or you can add garlic powder, Panko is lighter, you can even crush crackers of your choice (great for a gluten-free coating option) until sand-like texture and use that! I like to add shredded parmesan cheese to any of these to add flavor.

How Long to Cook Breaded Ravioli in Air Fryer

There are 3 steps to this and both take a bit of time. You want to boil your fresh or frozen ravioli pieces until tender, then allow to cool a bit. While you preheat your machine you will bread the outside to coat, lay inside, and “fry” for about 4 minutes. In total you will need about 10 minutes of cook time with a bit more for prepping.

Tips

Biggest tip is air fryer fried raviolis need to be set in a single layer so they aren’t overlapping. You really want the outside to be crunchy but still have tender cheese or meat on the inside. You need the hot air to be able to circulate all around each piece for optimal results.

You could use any brand of electric air fryer you have to make these. If made in a Foodi you would use the lid that is attached with the basket inside.

  • 1 large egg (beaten, for egg free brush on mayonnaise)
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 2 cup bread crumbs (Italian style)

Method

  1. 1

Cook ravioli according to package directions on the stovetop in water.

  2. 2

Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees and spray your air fryer basket with non stick spray.

  3. 3

On a plate combine breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese.

  4. 4

Whisk egg in a bowl and dredge each cooked and slightly cooled ravioli one at a time, followed by pressing each side into your breadcrumb mixture so each one is coated. Shake excess crumbs off and place each one inside air fryer basket. Do not overlap them.
