The journey to perfecting this pressure cooker breakfast bundt cake was an exciting culinary adventure. When I first experimented with this concept, I admit there was a degree of uncertainty about how it would translate from a conventional oven to a pressure cooker. However, the results far exceeded my expectations! The cake emerged perfectly cooked, with a wonderful texture and an explosion of flavors that quickly elevated it to cult status in our kitchen. Packed with protein-rich eggs, flavorful leftover ham, finely diced onions, and soft, fluffy biscuits, every bite is hearty, satisfying, and utterly delicious. It has undeniably earned its spot at the top of our list of quick and easy Instant Pot recipes on The Typical Mom blog.

Instant Pot Breakfast Bundt Cake: A Savory Brunch Sensation

My previous ventures into breakfast baking included a classic oven-baked breakfast bundt cake and an Instant Pot breakfast casserole made with hash browns. This particular recipe, a savory bacon, egg, and cheese bundt cake, represents a wonderful fusion of those experiences. It combines the comforting familiarity of a casserole with the elegant presentation of a bundt cake, making it an ideal choice for any gathering. The finished product is not only incredibly tasty but also beautifully structured, making it a show-stopping dish for brunch or a special family breakfast.

To achieve this perfect pressure cooker breakfast, a specific piece of equipment is absolutely essential: a 7-inch non-stick bundt pan. This pan’s size is perfectly tailored to fit comfortably within a 6-quart Instant Pot or larger models. Its non-stick coating is crucial, ensuring that your delicate bundt cake cooks evenly without sticking and releases flawlessly, preserving its intricate shape. Trust me, the right pan makes all the difference in achieving that professional, Instagram-worthy finish.

Mastering Your Pressure Cooker: Essential Tips for Success

For those embarking on their pressure cooking journey, or even seasoned users looking to refine their skills, having a few fundamental tips can significantly enhance your culinary experience. Pressure cooking is a fantastic method for preparing quick, flavorful, and often hands-off meals, and with these pointers, you’ll be cooking like a pro in no time:

  • Bookmark Our Recipe Hub: Make sure to bookmark our comprehensive Instant Pot recipes page. We are constantly adding new, exciting, and easy-to-follow recipes each week, offering endless inspiration for your pressure cooking adventures. It’s your go-to resource for everything from weeknight dinners to special occasion dishes.
  • Your Go-To Cooking Times Guide: We highly recommend printing out our Instant Pot cooking times cheat sheet. This invaluable guide simplifies pressure cooking by providing precise cooking durations for a wide array of ingredients, including various meats, vegetables, and beans. It eliminates guesswork, ensuring your food is cooked to perfection every time.
  • Invest in a Non-Stick Inner Pot: While most Instant Pots come with a stainless steel inner pot, I wholeheartedly recommend investing in a non-stick inner pot. This upgrade dramatically improves cleanup, especially when dealing with sticky ingredients or after sautéing. It significantly reduces the chances of food residue sticking and makes your cooking experience much more enjoyable.
  • The Art of Deglazing: Understanding how to deglaze a pressure cooker is a crucial skill. After sautéing ingredients, browning bits can stick to the bottom of the pot. Deglazing involves adding a splash of liquid (like broth or water) and gently scraping these flavorful bits up. This not only prevents the “burn” warning on your Instant Pot but also adds incredible depth of flavor to your dishes. With a non-stick liner, you’ll encounter fewer issues, but the technique remains valuable.

For all our recipe development and testing, including this delightful breakfast bundt cake, I consistently use a 6-quart Instant Pot model. This size is incredibly versatile, perfect for preparing meals for families and managing a wide range of recipes with ease. It’s truly a workhorse in the kitchen!

Crafting Your Breakfast Bundt Cake in a Ninja Foodi

The inspiration for many of my recipes, including this breakfast bundt cake, often stems from a deep-seated desire to minimize food waste. For instance, after preparing a succulent Instant Pot ham, I frequently find myself with delicious leftovers. Rather than letting them go unused, I decided to experiment with incorporating them into a breakfast bundt cake within the pressure cooker. The outcome was nothing short of amazing! This recipe proved to be incredibly successful, and the excellent news is that you can effortlessly replicate this savory bundt cake in your Ninja Foodi, utilizing its pressure cooking functionality.

Developing recipes for pressure cookers presents a unique set of challenges, primarily due to the inability to visually monitor the cooking process as one would with a conventional oven. Figuring out the precise timing is often the most critical and difficult aspect. However, through careful testing, I discovered that 30 minutes under high pressure worked absolutely perfectly for this recipe. This timing ensures that the biscuits are thoroughly cooked through, transforming into soft, fluffy pockets within the cake, and that the eggs are completely set, without any undesirable runniness. The result is a consistently moist and flavorful bundt cake every time.

The versatility of this recipe extends beyond just ham. While diced ham provides a fantastic savory base, you can easily substitute it with other breakfast favorites. Consider using crispy bacon bits, which add a delightful smoky crunch, or pre-cooked ground sausage for a richer, heartier flavor profile in your egg mixture. I’m already planning my next iteration with crumbled sausage and will be sure to update this post with a mouthwatering photograph once it’s perfected!

Delectable Pressure Cooker Breakfast Bundt Cake Ingredients

This savory bundt cake is not only delicious but also wonderfully adaptable to your taste preferences and dietary needs. While my initial creation omitted cheese to cater to a dairy-free family member (who, by the way, absolutely adored it!), a quarter cup of shredded cheese would be a fantastic addition for those who love that extra layer of richness. Here’s a comprehensive guide to the core ingredients you’ll need to assemble this fabulous and flavorful breakfast treat:

  • 7-inch Non-Stick Bundt Pan: This is a non-negotiable item for this recipe. Its specific 7-inch diameter is designed to fit perfectly into 6-quart Instant Pots or larger models. Opt for a good quality non-stick pan to guarantee effortless release and maintain the bundt cake’s beautiful, intricate shape.
  • Eggs: You’ll need about 4 large eggs. These form the binding and protein-rich base of our savory cake, giving it a fluffy and satisfying texture.
  • Refrigerated Biscuits: A single tube of refrigerated biscuits is required. I strongly recommend using larger, “Grands” style biscuits, which are readily available in the refrigerated section of most grocery stores. Their larger size and tender texture integrate beautifully into the bundt cake, providing delightful pockets of dough. Typically, you’ll use 7 out of an 8-count tube for the optimal ingredient ratio.
  • Diced Ham: Approximately 3/4 cup of precooked, diced ham is perfect. This is an excellent way to utilize leftover holiday ham or any other cooked ham you have on hand. For alternative savory flavors, feel free to substitute with 1/2 cup of real crumbled bacon or cooked ground sausage.
  • Diced Onion: A quarter cup of finely diced onion adds a subtle aromatic sweetness and a lovely savory depth that complements the other ingredients without overpowering them.
  • Seasoned Salt: About 1/2 teaspoon of seasoned salt. I personally find that Lawry’s seasoned salt offers a wonderfully balanced blend of herbs and spices, which significantly enhances the overall savory profile of this dish.
  • Garlic Salt: A full teaspoon of garlic salt is essential for boosting the umami and garlicky notes, which pair exquisitely with the eggs and ham.
  • Shredded Cheese (Optional): For those who desire a cheesy twist, approximately 1/4 cup of your favorite shredded cheese (such as sharp cheddar, mild mozzarella, or a delightful Monterey Jack blend) can be gently folded into the mixture. It adds extra creaminess and a layer of savory flavor.

This truly is such a captivating and practical savory bundt cake concept, isn’t it? Its elegant presentation makes it an impeccable choice for any brunch setting, and its dense yet incredibly flavorful profile ensures it generously feeds a fair number of guests. To achieve those pristine, clean slices and ensure every portion is easy to serve, it’s crucial to allow the cake to cool for at least 5 to 10 minutes after cooking. As beautifully illustrated in the photograph below, each individual bite is loaded with ample portions of fluffy egg and savory ham, creating a perfectly balanced and deeply satisfying culinary experience.

Unlocking the Potential: Can You Bake in a Pressure Cooker?

A common and understandable question arises among those new to the versatility of electric pressure cookers: can these appliances truly be used for baking? The answer, to the surprise and delight of many, is a resounding YES! This savory breakfast bundt cake stands as a delicious testament to the impressive baking capabilities of your pressure cooker. But its potential doesn’t stop with savory dishes; you can explore a wide and exciting array of baked goods beyond this particular recipe.

  • Indeed, the pressure cooker is a remarkably efficient tool for baking a variety of items, effectively transforming it into a highly specialized, compact oven. This opens up a new world of culinary possibilities, allowing you to prepare dishes you might only associate with traditional oven baking.
  • Beyond this savory delight, you can effortlessly bake a moist and tender Instant Pot coffee cake, which consistently turns out with a perfect texture and rich flavor. The sealed environment of the pressure cooker helps to lock in moisture, creating exceptional results.
  • One of the most significant advantages of using a pressure cooker for baking is its ability to keep your kitchen cool. This makes it an excellent alternative to turning on your conventional oven, especially during the warmer months when you want to avoid heating up your entire home. It’s an energy-efficient solution that delivers fantastic results.
  • The unique cooking environment within a pressure cooker ensures that baked goods retain moisture exceptionally well. This often translates to incredibly tender, succulent, and flavorful outcomes that can sometimes even surpass those achieved with traditional baking methods.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pressure Cooker Baking

Do you need special pans to bake in a pressure cooker?

Yes, for successful pressure cooker baking, you will typically need smaller versions of standard bakeware. These specialized pans are usually around 7 inches in diameter. This compact size is crucial because it allows them to fit comfortably into the inner pot of a 6-quart pressure cooker, alongside the necessary trivet and water. You can readily find these smaller baking pans online or in kitchen supply stores. They are incredibly versatile and work exceptionally well for a diverse range of recipes, from beautifully formed cakes and mini pizzas to various “pot-in-pot” cooking methods, ensuring even cooking and perfect results.

Equipment

  • 1 Pressure Cooker (6-quart or larger)
  • 1 Mini Bundt Pan (7-inch non-stick)
  • 1 Large Mixing Bowl
  • Aluminum Foil (for trivet sling and covering pan)
  • Trivet/Steamer Rack

Ingredients

  • 1 tube refrigerated biscuits, (such as Grands, approximately 7 out of an 8-count package)
  • 1/4 onion, diced finely
  • 3/4 c precooked ham, diced – (or 1/2 c. real bacon bits, or cooked crumbled sausage)
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1/2 tsp seasoned salt, (e.g., Lawry’s)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 c shredded cheese (optional, such as cheddar or mozzarella)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, gently scramble your eggs until they are well combined and slightly frothy.
  2. Take each refrigerated biscuit and cut it into approximately 9 uniform pieces. Add these biscuit pieces into the bowl with the scrambled egg mixture.
  3. Now, add your diced ham (or preferred meat substitute like bacon or sausage), finely diced onions, garlic salt, and seasoned salt to the bowl. If you’re opting for cheese, mix in 1/4 cup of shredded cheese at this stage.
  4. Using a spatula or spoon, carefully fold all the ingredients together until the biscuit pieces are thoroughly and evenly coated with the egg mixture. Ensure no dry spots remain.
  5. Generously spray the inside of your 7-inch non-stick bundt pan with cooking spray, ensuring every crevice is coated. Carefully pour the entire breakfast mixture into the prepared bundt pan.
  6. Cover the bundt pan tightly with aluminum foil. Allow the foil to dome slightly at the top; this provides space for the mixture to rise minimally during cooking without sticking to the foil.
  7. Pour 1 1/2 cups of water into the bottom of your pressure cooker’s inner pot. Place a metal trivet (or a steamer rack) at the bottom of the pot, ensuring it’s stable.
  8. Create a foil sling: take a long piece of aluminum foil and fold it lengthwise into a sturdy strip. Use this sling to gently lower your covered bundt pan onto the trivet inside the pressure cooker. The sling will make it easy to lift the hot pan out later.
  9. Close the pressure cooker lid and ensure the venting knob is set to the ‘Sealing’ position. Set your pressure cooker to cook on HIGH pressure for 30 minutes.
  10. Once the cooking cycle is complete, allow the pressure to release naturally for at least 20 minutes (Natural Release, or NR). This gradual release is key for preventing the bundt cake from deflating and ensures it’s fully set. After 20 minutes, you can carefully perform a quick release (QR) of any remaining pressure.
  11. Carefully remove the bundt pan from the pressure cooker using the foil sling. Uncover the pan and allow the breakfast bundt cake to cool slightly for about 5-10 minutes. This cooling period is vital to help the cake set and hold its shape before you attempt to flip it.
  12. After cooling, carefully invert the bundt cake onto a serving plate. Slice into generous portions and savor every delicious bite of your homemade pressure cooker breakfast bundt cake!
