We have lots of quick and easy Instant Pot recipes on our site but sometimes the most basic dishes are overlooked and that is the case for this one….but it’s here now!

If you buy meat in bulk like we do at the beginning of every year you might want to try all the things. There are so many great ways to cook up different pieces of pig y’all. I mean bacon is a given and everyone knows how to cook that well. When you get to larger pieces it may get a bit confusing. We have all the answers…..

I have used pork in a variety of ways using my multi cooker. For sizes like this you need very little time (or they will dry out). For larger pieces like our Instant Pot pulled pork it also works great to tenderize in a fraction of the time.

Collage of pork chops in insteant pot, with mushrooms and tomatoes, reminiscent of hearty pressure cooker recipes, served on a plate with garnish.

With this one you can use your Ninja Foodi pot (with the lid that isn’t attached) or your Crockpot Express if what you have. Any brand works just as long as it has the saute (or brown) and high pressure function. I have several different brands and they all basically work the same way.

Ingredient Notes

In this we are basing it off of cooking 4 pork chops, medium sized. We used bone in pork chops, thin to 1 inch size are best, boneless may take a minute less cook time on high pressure. I wouldn’t recommend 2 inch thick pork chops as they overlap and it is hard to get each one cooked evenly this way. I like to add sliced onions too but optional.

Can you use boneless pork chops?

If you do have without the bone it will get done a bit faster but not much. It is the same as How Long to Cook Thin Pork Chops because there is less thickness to get thru really. There is a printable recipe card below for you to follow.

You will need some liquid to cook these so whether you make the gravy or not you’ll need chicken broth to steam. Stock is another option, water won’t lend much flavor to the dish.

Can you use frozen pork chops?

If you are forgetful (me) you can still save dinner. I kid you not you can’t even tell the difference between the outcome of our frozen pork chops in Instant Pot and this one. Especially with the gravy on top it always comes out super tender and moist.

How to Make the Gravy

To make this warm sauce I suggest that you add Tomato paste to make a richer thick texture, Half and half is best to make it creamy, Cornstarch is added to continue to thicken the sauce, Worcestershire sauce provides a deep umami flavor and seasonings of your choice.

You can use our dry rub for pork chops on any and all of the above cuts. It’s not just for pork chops as the name suggests. I have even put it on steaks when we smoke them and they turn out out of this world delish. As for sides I haven’t found one that isn’t great but typically I make fluffy mashed potatoes or white rice.

Tips for Keeping Pork Chops Moist

Here are a few tips you should remember when making this type of protein under high pressure. You want to keep them nice and moist and if you do these hacks you’ll be more successful along the way;

  • Brown 1-2 minutes per side a bit on saute is a great way to start
    • then don’t forget to deglaze your Instant pot to prevent the burn notice
  • You should use some sort of sauce (that isn’t too thick) to cook them in. Not only does it add flavor but it will prevent them from drying out.
  • Use broth instead of water, adds a bit more flavor (it just depends what I have on hand at the time)
  • Cook on high to make them fork tender
  • Always allow for a naturally release pressure release at the end instead of a quick release, that will keep the juices and get you the most tender pork chops imaginable.
  • It is easy to make a creamy broth out of the juices left in the pot, on saute mode

This recipe incorporates a simple yet creamy sauce to cook them in so not only do they come out tender because they’re cooked under pressure but the sauce gives it an added yumminess. 😉

How Long to Cook Pork Chops and Gravy in Instant Pot

This only takes like 10 minutes. Okay it takes maybe 10 minutes to build up to pressure so it is a bit longer than that. Think about it, that is just long enough to make your veggies and sides.

  • Course Entree, Main Course
  • Cuisine American

Ingredients

  • 4 medium pork chops (bone in)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste (or I have used 2 tbsp. pureed tomatoes)
  • 1 cup mushrooms (fresh, sliced)
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup half and half
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 cup broth (vegetable or beef)

Method

  1. 1

Turn the pressure cooker on to sauté mode, add oil and then brown the pork chops on both sides. Turn pot off. Remove meat and deglaze the pot with 1/4 c of your broth.

  2. 2

Put meat back in. Whisk rest of broth and tomato sauce together in a bowl, pour into pot. Add in onion, mushrooms, worc. sauce.

  3. 3

Close lid and steam valve and set to pressure high for 8 minutes. (timing depends on thickness of meat)

  4. 4

Allow to naturally release steam for 2 minutes, then do a quick release. Set Instant Pot on saute again. Remove meat and set aside under foil to stay warm.

  5. 5

In a small bowl mix together half and half and cornstarch and add into the pot allowing liquid to bubble and thicken. Add garlic salt if desired, whisk together. Turn pot off and serve meat and gravy over rice!
