Rice Krispies Ornaments

Your little ones can help stir and assemble them too so they’re a great activity for holiday get togethers. You only need a few ingredients and you’re set. You will need:

  1. Rice Krispie cereal
  2. Mini candy canes
    1. buy extra and this is how to melt peppermint candies into ornaments too
  3. Gummy lifesavers
  4. Mini marshmallows
  5. Butter
  6. Red and green sprinkles to make them fun and festive

I made a smaller batch of Rice Krispy treats, directions found on the side of the box and on their website, because we were only making a few but you could easily make a double or triple batch. You could incorporate mini chocolate chips but I just like to let the colors shine

You make them as usual (included directions as well below so you can print them out), and I used a muffin pan to hold the balls we made and added the other items to the muffin pan so little fingers could pick them up and everything was in 1 place. Here’s the directions and how we make them:

We have a lot of fun baking at Christmas time. Another fun idea we had and enjoyed making this year were these egg nog cookie cups. These and our egg nog pudding cake are amazing and so easy to do! Let us know what you think of our rice krispy Christmas treats, and what you love baking this time of year too!

How to Make Christmas Rice Krispy Treats

Melt butter and add mini marshmallows to pan over low heat (spray pan and spoon with non stick cooking spray first). Add cereal to bowl. Pour melted marshmallows over cereal and stir immediately coating all of cereal evenly. Quickly make into balls with your hands, should make approx. 4 balls/ornaments.

  • Push small candy cane into hole of gummy lifesaver halfway down and push into one side of cereal ball to add to the holiday spirit of these Christmas rice krispie treat recipe.
  • Roll gently or sprinkle with hands your sprinkles to decorate. Allow to cool so they stick together well. You can leave on baking sheet lined with parchment paper or spray muffin tin and set inside there to cool.

I have also used my sprayed hands when making our Fall version of Pumpkin shaped Rice Krispie Treats. Either way works really.

Other ideas you could incorporate would be red and green m&ms and sprinkles. I do think that the more candies you add though the harder they are to stick together. You might want to add more marshmallows in this case OR just cut down the cereal so it’s stickier.

Always allow the balls to sit and cool down to room temperature before handling again. They need time to cool down so they stick together in that shape you want. You can jump to recipe and get started.

If you add something else or use an alternative to make the cute hanger on the top then let us know in case others can’t find what we used.
