Crockpot Express Pork Ribs

I’m not new to pressure cooking. I got my Instant Pot a year ago and use it several times a week. It has been a game changer for our family to eat together more often. Something that would normally take me all day, like this, is now closer to an hour to be done perfectly.

Pork is my favorite type of rack by far. If you are more of a beef lover and want to cook veggies together in the same pot you should follow our English short ribs recipe instead.

I recently got my Crockpot Express and was anxious to try it out and see the difference of Instant Pot vs Crock Pot Express. They are very similar other than a few buttons and both make my busy life a lot easier for sure!!

What are the best ribs to cook in a pressure cooker?

Our preference is country style pork ribs Instant Pot style. There are baby back ribs with less meat than country style but cheaper. Pressure Cooker Beef Ribs won’t be as tender but work

If you start your Crockpot Express ribs and shortly after it beeps and shows an E6 code there is no need to worry. This sometimes happens and is easily fixed.

FAQ

That isn’t necessary. You do need some kind of moisture in the pot to create steam in order to get the meat tender enough to pull away from the bone but not submerged. We use barbecue sauce instead of water to add a lot more flavor.

In a pressure cooker!! You can use any brand to do this. Just slice rack to fit, add a bottle of bbq sauce, seal the lid and let it go! Depending on the size this only takes about 30 minutes to get so tender you can pull the meat off of the bone easily with your fingers!

Ingredient Notes

You are going to want a full Rack of ribs cut into smaller pieces, about 3-4 in each piece. We prefer pork back ribs.

Barbecue sauce is what we use but don’t choose one that is high in sugar to avoid burning (honey style isn’t good).

Water or apple juice works for the necessary liquid to steam and make them want to fall off the bones. Some like a dash of liquid smoke too. If you want to add a dry rub first go right ahead

Note that 25 minutes cook time is adequate for a small rack of ribs about 2 lbs. If doubling I would set to 40 minutes. A lot faster than if you were to make Crockpot ribs, but these will come out just as tender believe me. Allow to naturally release steam for about 5 minutes.

How do you crisp the top when done?

For really crispy ribs, try ourair fryer ribs next or just put it under your broiler on high. Put them on a cookie sheet on the middle rack for about 4 minutes. I also have a dual toaster oven + air fryer that I love and used for this. I set it at 350 for about 4-5 minutes and it came out nice and toasty like you see here.

It is totally up to you if you finish off these bbq ribs. Straight out of the pot they are delicious and fall off the bone tender. If you love the outside like you see below then just follow these steps to the perfect pressure cooker ribs!

What is E6 error code on electric cooker?

If you get this one the screen, sometimes it just needs just a bit more liquid. You can read more about Crockpot Express E6 error code here to fix that. Just release the steam valve (there is probably no steam to be let out), open your lid, adjust your ribs so they aren’t sitting flat on the bottom of the pot. Also make sure there is sauce in between your ribs and the bottom of your pressure cooker.

Add another 1/2 c. of water which may help avoid the code appearing again too. The E6 error code is a sign that something may be burning (but sometimes occurs when things are fine).

Crock Pot Express Ribs Recipe

If you got this new pressure cooker you might be looking for an easy Crock Pot Express ribs recipe and I have one for you here! Tender fall off the bone barbecue ribs cooked in less than 30 minutes is now possible! Husband and kid approved, this is the only way I cook them now.

  • Serves 5
  • Prep 10 minutes
  • Cook 25 minutes
  • Total 35 minutes
  • Course Entree, Main Course
  • Cuisine American

Ingredients

  • 1 rack ribs (we prefer pork, they come out the tenderest, 1.8 lbs. were cooked)
  • 1 bottle barbecue sauce (20 oz, do not choose honey style, it will cause to possibly burn)
  • 1 cup water

Method

  1. 1

Cut your rack of ribs into smaller pieces, I cut into pcs. with 4 ribs in each section.

  2. 2

Pour 1/2 c. water into your Crock Pot Express pressure cooker, followed by 1/2 your bottle of barbecue sauce.

  3. 3

Put your rib pcs. inside facing upward so ribs aren’t laying flat on the bottom and cause to overheat and trigger a E6 code that means it is overheating. (if it does I’ll tell you below what to do..no worries)

  4. 4

Pour the rest of your barbecue sauce on top of your ribs.

  5. 5

Add 1/2 c. water into your bbq sauce bottle, put cap on and shake to loosen remaining sauce, pour this on top of your ribs too so they are nice and coated.

  6. 6

Close your lid and steam valve.

  7. 7

Set your pot to the meat setting, high, for 25 minutes. (if doubling this recipe I would set for 40 min for ultra fall off the bone ribs)

  8. 8

Do a natural release for 5 mintues, then release rest of your steam after that.

  9. 9

You can serve immediately or put in oven or convection oven on broiler setting 350 degrees for about 4-5 min. to gently brown the tops.

  10. 10

    Enjoy
